While some of the interior stylings are a little precious for our tastes (how about a little color?), there’s no arguing with the quality of the house itself at 100 Sixth Avenue in Park Slope. The owner’s triplex has five bedrooms and as many fireplaces. The garden apartment also looks particularly nice. Still, with a price tag of $2,950,000 for a house on Sixth Avenue, you’d expect perfection. Think they’ll get their price?

  1. Pete is absolutely right – according to PropertyShark the owner has the same name as the broker here (and I assume they are the same person). She works in Manhattan and nothing in her bio mentions Brooklyn, beyond the possible clue that she “ives in a single-family brownstone” (plus a rental unit?). The fact that this listing doesn’t identify the broker as the owner is illegal – this is huge for PDE, but perhaps it has to do with their new VOW (virtual office website) (which I find totally annoying).

  2. “I agree with you – it is extremely depressing to have people tell you that they will only consider properties in certain school districts, and you know exactly why they’ve chosen them”

I feel the same about people who insist on only considering properties in Park Slope:
    White 77%
    Black 8%
    Asian 5%
    Other 13%
    Two races 1%
    Hispanic 10%

    Damn racist aholes.

  3. Babs, I had no idea.

Anyway, we moved to the Heights and have our daughter in a private nursery school. We’ll probably stay in that program through pre-K and K-5.

Full disclosure: we do not live in a $3M home.

    😉

We certainly could have afforded more apartment if we made different choices.

I have nothing against public schools, being PS kid myself. I do have great enthusiasm for Reggio-Emilia, Montessori, and combinations of other methods that are seldom utilized outside of private schools.

  4. Why can’t Douglas Elliman post a legible floor plan? If I was the seller, I’d be pissed at this lack of attention to an important detail. For example, the layout of the rental isn’t clear — where’s the bathroom? Meanwhile I never understand why there’s so much fuss about decorating styles. I guess it helps people get an idea of whether they can see themselves living in a house. But with brownstones, you really need a bit more imagination than that. To me it’s only relevant if the kitchen or bathrooms offend — which could mean an expensive renovation when it’s not strictly necessary.

what the listing doesn’t say is that the owner is the broker.

    What? Are you serious??

They are required by law to disclose that in the listing.

  6. I also have a co-worker who is LOADED (mega family money)…they live on Central Park West in what is probably the most amazing apartment I’ve ever seen and they send all 3 of their kids to public school in NYC.
