House of the Day: 6718 Ridge Boulevard
This house at 6718 Ridge Boulevard jumped out at us from the Brownstoner Marketplace listings. In particular, that dining room, with original wooden built-ins and beams, knocked our socks off. This house at 6718 Ridge Boulevard jumped out at us from the Brownstoner Marketplace listings. In particular, that dining room, with original wooden built-ins and beams, knocked our socks off. The exterior of the Bay Ridge pad is made of limestone and sports a rounded bay-window shape. The only real drawback, potentially, is the fact that the house only has three floors of living space, one of which is partially below grade. Given that the house next door just sold for $730,000 in August, though, the asking price on this one of $749,000 seems perfectly realistic, especially for a buyer who likes the idea of a hot tub in the back yard.

I don’t know what gaythin is.
And, yes, please, Mr. B, could you finally explain why you often call three stories a drawback? I just don’t understand. (Sorry if you’ve said it before. Missed it if so. Or it was before my time.)
I like this place.
And I like many of the people who live in Bay Ridge. Sue me.
ouch CGar 🙁

CGar, why are you dumping on my future hood?
Something doesn’t compute for me that someone making enough to afford a $700K+ house would have to live in far brooklyn near a sewage treatment plant
Montclair is seriously over rated, and im a Huge promoter of New Jersey
*rob*
“Bay Ridge…think I’d throw in the towel and move to Montclair first”
Bay Ridge? Really? I’d sooner live in Kabul. Do you any of you know the type of people who live in Bay Ridge? Let’s just say the sewage treatment plant feels right at home.
🙂
higher NJ ppty taxes is irrelevant cause if you can afford to buy this, your income big enough to yield a hefty income tax payment to NYC which one avoids via living outside of NYC.
most of montclair is so so. montclair heights is real nice bur real pricey too.
decent price real estate anywhere is only via memory recall nowadays
Well, you all nailed it. There is not much more to say. I think in the old days, Brownstoner would have noted the narrowness of the house in addition to the nice original details. Turn of the century Colonial Revival, as I now know from reading Montrose’s excellent posts. I have learned so much more from Montrose’s posts than from books on the history of architecture and design, of which I have many. Kitchen and baths could use a little gentle re-do, perhaps.
