Wow. This house at 1009 Bergen Street in Crown Heights is going to make some old-house lover very happy. The two-family brick has some of the most incredible woodwork we’ve seen in a long time. The pièce de résistance? An incredible center staircase. The location, just in Bedford Avenue, is also quite central (as far as Crown Heights goes, at least). The only thing that doesn’t knock our socks off about the house (based upon what we can see in the photos) is the look of the kitchen on the garden level.

I agree Maly.
Double duplex?
Hah!
I meant Washington and Bedford.
Calling the parlor floor a “triple parlor” is a bit misleading when the rear “parlor” is actually a kitchen.
Similarly, the lower “duplex” includes the garden floor (which is already a basement) and a “basement” (which is actually the cellar). I’ll take the broker’s word for it when she says the cellar is windowed, though clearly there are no windows at the front of the house. Is this one of those houses (we saw another listing like this awhile ago) where the rear yard is much lower than the front street level, which would allow at least some small windows in the cellar?
Having said all that, this seems like a decent asking price given the copious original woodwork, though the kitchens (and presumably the baths as well) would need to be renovated, and a place for a laundry hook-up would need to be found.
Interesting, this was the house/office of one of those mortgage-fraud con artist (now arrested):

Seized, sold for $300,000 to a flipper a year ago.
2 pet peeves with the listing: why are the pics so grainy? this is not a double duplex; cellar space does NOT count so it’s really 2,400sf, not 3,200.
Saw the inside of this house about a month ago. On the one hand, the details are incredible–almost too much. But the developers who gutted and redid the place did not do such a great job on the other new stuff they put in the house; it seemed very Home Depot-ish. It’s also next to a twin house with some sort of closed down business in the front. The location is okay, but it seemed a bit desolate when I was there.
Worth noting that I saw it before the kitchen appliances were installed.
I agree, DIBS. Too bad we can’t force other folks to maintiain a minimum level aesthetic with the visible parts of their properties.
Bergen between Washington and Franklin leaves a lot to be desired. You have some great looking houses right next to some some monstrocities.
Ashame about that really fugly front yard garage next door to the left…check out Streetview.
That said, all new mechanicals and roof.
I love this house, but unfortunately this is one of the less desirable stretches of Bergen, IMO.
Ooohhh, I gotta go see this one! How apropos to my woodwork article.
I love it! One can aways change the kitchen. It would cost a lot less than trying to replace or replicate this woodwork.
