House of the Day: 220 Seeley Street
This cute one-family at 220 Seeley Street just hit the market with a price tag of $1,250,000. It’s got some very nice original details (parquet floors, beamed ceilings) and that holy grail of New York real estate, its own driveway. The comment initially from zinka was that “the vast majority of brownstone brooklynites don’t have cars”
She didn’t say owners.
And Sprafucile’s info that 57% of households in PS above 6th Avenue DO NOT have cars would prove that is true. That area is probably one of the more affluent areas of Brownstone Brooklyn and there’s a lot more to Brownstone Brooklyn than North Park Slope.
Since we’re splitting hairs here, it would in fact seem that Zinka’s statement is true…the only question is whether it’s a vast majority who don’t own cars, or just a majority.
11217, I belive they were talking Brownstone owners, not Brownstone Brooklyn residents. Quite a difference.

In more ways than one!!!
“The vast majority of brownstone brooklynites don’t have cars.”
Just for fun I tried to fact check this. In Park Slope above 6th Avenue, 57% of households do not have a car. A majority, but maybe not vast. Among households who own their units, whether a house or co-op/condo, only 36% do not have a car, and nearly two thirds do. And this is from the 2000 census. Since vehicle ownership is very strongly correlated with income, I would bet that as the neighborhood has become more affluent over the past decade, even more households have cars. Anecdotally, it’s certainly harder to find a parking space than it was ten years ago.

I guess there’s a difference between residents and homeowners though…
The latest figure I read said that 27% of Brownstone Brooklyn residents own cars.
Far from the majority. If I find the article, I’ll post it.
I believe most homeowners in bed Stuy have their own cars as well.
1.1 perhaps?
That crazy wedge of a house on 161 ppsw sold for 919k!

If that 200 terrace pl house drops another 200k I’ll go for a look.
shillstoner, where have you been? I’ve missed you.
I actually agree with your post here though.
