227 Clinton Street, a 25-foot-wide brownstone in Cobble Hill, hit the market in mid-September for $3,400,000 and by the end of October was listed on StreetEasy as being in contract. Apparently, though, things didn’t work out, as the gorgeous double-duplex house has been back on the market for a couple of weeks now. Man, is that parlor floor to die for or what!

  1. Cars do tend to back up along Clinton at peak hours, just as they back up on the narrow sidestreets behind sanitation trucks or when someone is loading or unloading. It’s the city.

  2. MM doesn’t disgust me! Nor do people who toss around large sums of money — especially since I’ve always assumed half this board is typing in from a tiny cubicle or a studio apartment.

  3. I agree with Noki about the price for this location. I walk the CDog by this house multiple times a day, and, night and day, it is one of the worst traffic blocks on Clinton; it’s the third block beneath Atlantic, and since the lights on Atlantic are truly a horror show, the traffic is typically blocked up past Cobble Hill Park.

That said, at the right price, which IMHO is NOT $3.4 million or anywhere near that, I think it’s a beautiful house, with great details, and I love this part of Cobble Hill. I also think it’s a terrible configuration and would re-do it. And, I’d expand the kitchen into the “tea room” while retaining all the beautiful original detail there, and add a 1/2 bath on the Parlor Floor.

In figuring the price, you also have to allow for extra privacy curtains/shades to block out Norah Jones.

Perhaps this house will suffer death by a thousand cuts, like the overpriced BHS listing on Amity, between Clinton and Henry, and the overpriced BHS listing on Kane, between Clinton and Court, and so on and so on and so on . . .

  4. muffet is being so disingenuous. her past posts give the impression that she is one of the biggest cheapskates on this site and yet today she wants us to think that she would seriously consider buying a 3-million dollar home if the kitchen were larger and if it did not need other relatively minor interior alts?
