House of the Day: 540 4th Street
We’re digging all the original details in this new listing at 540 4th Street. The Park Slope limestone has plenty of old-school cred but it’s gonna need to get some serious lovin’ from its next owner, a fact the listing cops to. We’re not so sure we agree that at $2,000,000, though, that it is…

The Park Slope limestone has plenty of old-school cred but it’s gonna need to get some serious lovin’ from its next owner, a fact the listing cops to. We’re not so sure we agree that at $2,000,000, though, that it is “priced accordingly” (as the listing also claims). The house is on a park block, but it’s only about 2,500 square feet. Thoughts?

All I can say is that of the few pictures there are, that this place is really, really special. Those fireplaces and their tiles are just stunning. And the location – really top notch. I won’t comment on the price, but to me this is a really exciting listing — no one else’s reno to deal with and beautiful, special original details.
Antidope, what does that have to do with this place? Is that one the same size and condition? If so, this widget might be right this time.
primary source, mm. acris.
Antidope – where you getting the info about 113 Garfield? Property shark is not listing the final selling price.
113 Garfield Pl sold for $1.65 clearing original widget by 8% (4/13/09) and off original ask by 8%; vis-Ã -vis Revisited (7/1/09) it sold for 18% over widget and 1% off new ask.
Despite the comments.
Go re-read them.
$2 million = very few pictures. How unusual. Is it me, or is there simply no door to the top floor bathroom. I see there are no en suite baths, but at least the dining room and kitchen are on the Parlor Floor and not in that English Basement.
Total renovation – like the baths and kitchen are outdated and ugly but one can inhabit the place OR
are there missing floors/walls/ripped out electrical?
I can’t imagine this could be well renovated for less than 500K which would bring price to 1000/psf, which is bubble levels. There are a host of other homes right around this location which are lingering at price points well below that on a psf basis.
Wow, that must be a real shithole. I bought my house from this broker and it wasn’t listed as needing complete reno, altho it was, so I can imagine how bad this must be.
Still, nice floorplan, nice details, altho I wonder what they look like up close.
Add a cool mil for the reno.
