House of the Day: 615 2nd Street Revisited
The owners of 615 2nd Street gave selling their Park Slope limestone a go last year but packed it in after six months when the $3,495,000 asking price proved to much for the market to bear. Now the house is back on the market with a new price tag of $2,950,000. It’s a great house…

The owners of 615 2nd Street gave selling their Park Slope limestone a go last year but packed it in after six months when the $3,495,000 asking price proved to much for the market to bear. Now the house is back on the market with a new price tag of $2,950,000. It’s a great house to be sure but, as we noted last time around, the kitchen finishes seem a little out of place. What do you think the market-clearing price is on this baby?

Oooh. I’d buy gold if only I could be sure there was chocolate inside.
Yes, you are right, they are Troy ounces. I just thought that using the word “avoirdupois” sounded sexier and made me sound even more intelligent than usual. 🙂
By the way when I take a car home from BoCoCa on Atlantic Ave we make a left on Troy to get to my place.
Tara – if the 10g means 10 grams and it’s pure gold, the coin is worth about $350. I don’t think that’s enough for the banquette — that is a beauty! I especially love how it’s built *over* the door.
Tara, what country is the coin from and what is the date??
Also, can you peel the gold off and find chocolate inside???
Sorry to tell you Dave… gold uses the Troy system of weights, not avoirdupois. The avoirdupois pound is just over 14.5 troy ounces. I used kilos to avoid this confusion.
Regardless, it’s still about 7 gold bars (400 ounce London Good Delivery style) to buy this house… including the mansion tax and part of the absurd commission you’ll have to pay your “buyer’s agent” and lawyer.
I don’t have that many gold baubles to melt.
I do have a gold coin (given to me by an ex). It says 10g on it. What does that mean? and how much of this house can I get? And please don’t tell me I can only buy the banquette in the kitchen!
Besides, Tara is easily confused as she herself said.
Tara, at $2,950,000 that would be 2,670.65 ounces at today’s price of $1,104.60 per oz.
tybur6, please stick with the avoirdupois system of measurement.
Gold is priced in US $ by the ounce, not kilos and certainly not in Euros.
btw – If I was worth my weight in gold, I’d be worth more than this house! As it stands, I’m not.
