House of the Day: 180 Washington Park

We’re certainly digging the location, size and type of the house. There’s also tons of original detail that is right up our alley. The renovation, though, feels too over-the-top to us. Call us old-fashioned, but the glitziness and polish of the whole thing feels a little out of place for Fort Greene. And that yard? What were they thinking? We suspect the sellers would have been better served by a more understated approach, especially when it comes to reselling in these non-boom times.

It is a beautiful house but the castle fireplace and the back yard would have to go. I’ve seen many bathrooms in the design magazines (mostly European) that use an entire room, tub freestanding in the center and put in sofas and chairs. Not for me- has a big ewwww factor no matter how nice. The prison living concept- sink, toilet, bed all in one room.
“it’s one of the few houses that really understands ensuite master bedroom & bathroom.”
You can take the suburbanite out of the burbss, but…
The rear yard and much of the house does have a commercial construction quality, similar to many of the townhouses in listings for the Upper East Side. I’m sure it could be made to feel much more homey with the right design and assessory choices. I do love the size of the windows, the extra width and the location by the park. Someone, especially a lawyer or a finance type will probably find this very appealing.
That tub is right out of Scarface. I wonder if that’s where they got the idea, in which case I don’t think they really got the point………..
I agree, the tub is unfortunate to totally laughable, so is the back yard. However, they are very easy to fix, and the bones and the location are wonderful.
I think it’s a disgrace to the city that such property carries a $5K tax. It should have been 6-8 times than that.

Spoken like a true democrat. 🙂

Good point Maly but nothing could help that stupid tub in the middle of the bathroom.
Wow! Rough crowd. I have stayed in my share of chain hotels, none looked like that.
I bet if the agent invested in a bit of staging, the comments would be completely different.
mopar….they were loving the architectural detail but they thought the seller delusional about the price they were asking…Only because it was in the ghetto and would have been 2 1/2X that price in Ft. Greene.
Note: I did note pay full ask. I may be stupid but I’m no fool
