What’s a beautiful house in Crown Heights North worth these days? We have no idea, but this listing at 1265 Dean Street should help provide a data point. The four-story Romanesque Revival house is dripping with original detail, including some serious wood paneling, and is located on “one of the loveliest blocks in all of Brooklyn,” according to the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The corner location means lots of light but, on the downside, it also means higher taxes. The asking price is $925,000. Any guesses?

  1. Slopefarm- CHN locavore here- do you cut the crusts off? Are the tomatoes rare, historical goldens seeded from 150 year old stock taken from the garden of a British aristocrat’s country house in Wales?

  2. Slopefarm, it’s a deal. I look forward to the farm fresh fare. Perhaps fresh mozzerella cheese sandwhiches from local rare, Brahmin cows, fed on hay picked by Bhutanese nuns, on freshed baked artisanal bread baked by vegan Seattle transplants. With a sprig of basil from your backyard on top.

  3. I think we can safely say that MM PWNED the What – and with half her brain tied behind her back. I can only imagine the devastation if she had used both halves, but then, why expend the extra energy when it was so easy? 🙂

MM- the Hazmat guy said they responded to a toxic waste report but that he had already left. I think you’ll see the slime trail leading down to the Gowanus.

  4. “Please I hope to God the”diverse” part is West Indian because it’s not Asshat!”

So “Asshat” is code only for White??? Hmmmm, so we add that to honkey, cracker, snowflake, any others???? I need to keep up in case I ever hear one of those words over in the Bed Stuy ghetto!!!

  5. I can’t wait to see what the homes on this street are going for in five years. This house is very virgin. I really wish they would have taking more photos.. The Parlor is in really good condition with beautiful woodwork.

  6. Hoohaa! What! You’re a laugh riot today. I especially loved the urn on the mantlepiece line. Yeah, well, I’ll be on a fine, well carved, 19th century, mahogany Crown Heights North mantlepiece, in a house that has quadrupled its purchase price in 50 years, so I’ll be rockin’ steady, mon.

“I was in Crown Height a couple of hours ago!” the What.

THAT’S what the police cars, helicoptors, guys in hazmat suits, and the gentlemen with the white coats were doing here. Thanks for clearing up that mystery. We rarely see such action.
