What’s a beautiful house in Crown Heights North worth these days? We have no idea, but this listing at 1265 Dean Street should help provide a data point. The four-story Romanesque Revival house is dripping with original detail, including some serious wood paneling, and is located on “one of the loveliest blocks in all of Brooklyn,” according to the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The corner location means lots of light but, on the downside, it also means higher taxes. The asking price is $925,000. Any guesses?

  1. 1265 Dean St has been on the market for the last 4 years. I’m glad these retards put the crack pipe down.

If you are a retard this block is not for you, trust me on this one!

    The What

Someday this war is gonna end…

  2. I live around the corner and know the area really well. The large building is a private senior residence- very well kept. The area is quiet and friendly. The house is very beautiful, as is the block, which has a very strong block association. I’m not sure why the house has been sitting for so long either- at one point I thought it was taken off the market.

We are a landmarked district and the neighborhood is filled with families, longtime residents and families that have owned their homes for several generations. Still, CHN hasn’t gotten the press and interest Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy have, so prices have lagged a bit behind. We’re walking distance to Foodtoon, which is first rate, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, a small public library branch and Eastern Parkway. There are lots of stores, nothing fancy especially along Fulton and Nostrand. A new fruit and veggie stand just opened on Nostrand too, betw. Atlantic and Pacific. The only thing we do really miss is a few good restaurants and cafes. But there’s a number of ethnic food shops that are good. (rob would love all the dollar stores!)

I love it here- not saying it doesn’t have its problems, but it is certainly not the nightmare a lot of people would have you believe.

  3. I only know there is a garage behind this building so I assume that’s what she means by exclusive parking area. unless that garage belongs to someone else in which case I don’t know where the parking area is, bcs it’s not behind the house.

  4. ” ‘one of the loveliest blocks in all of Brooklyn’ ”

Similar to what ROTW alluded to earlier, not the kind of “loveliest” that the “asshats” want. At least not right now and not for the foreseeable future.

I’ve been inside. Very lovely indeed (save the top floor stench). But that corner intersection hinders movement near a mil. Especially with the required TLC. It’ll do well when the market bounces some decade from now to some level below.

  5. This is a beautiful place. The place is lovely in the spring. Walked by Stering and Bedford this weekend. Amazing. How is subway access? How about restaurants? Any weird factors like drug clinics, etc.

  6. since the other resident experts (bxgrl,MM) have not arrived yet, let the newbie chime in.

other than that big building across the street from this house, the block & nearby are full of nice looking bldgs/houses like this one (some as nice, some less,…). just use google map’s street view to check it out. Area is nice enough that on 1 curious visit to check out all the hype Montrose references here, I ended up buying an aptmt unit – still gripping unforeseen hurdles forcing me to rent it out instead.
