House of the Day: 465 6th Avenue
This three-story house on Park Slope’s 6th Avenue between 10th and 11th Streets probably isn’t the easiest sell. This three-story house on Park Slope’s 6th Avenue between 10th and 11th Streets probably isn’t the easiest sell. The exterior certainly leaves something to be desired it’s too bad the original storefront isn’t still there. Inside, there’s still some interior detail left in the form of a tin ceiling and some sealed-off fireplaces. The trellis in the bedroom is pretty sweet, too. That said, the building, while perfectly serviceable, will probably not charm the pants off anyone. Which makes us think it may be more of an investment play at the asking price of $1.6 million. Does anyone know what a 1,000-square-foot retail space in this location would fetch in rent? Maybe a buyer would be best served by returning the ground floor to commercial and creating a nice residential duplex upstairs. Would this course of action make any sense?

actually it’s because if you look at nypd crime statistics, you would see that those neighborhoods have far more crime than park slope.
moron.
2:03 When you ask “uh…have you ever been to clinton hill, prospect heights, sunset park…much less bed stuy, brownsville etc.”, is that because you actually experienced violence towards you in these nabes, or because they “look dangerous” to you?
But 2:33pm, Park Slope DOES have more crime than Greenwich CT. A lot more.
To simply admit that doesn’t mean Park Slope is “dangerous”.
Somebody save the children!!! Won’t somebody save the children?!
i agree fully that crime happens anywhere and everywhere, but to even suggest that park slope is “dangerous” is absolutely absurd.
if that’s the case, then greenwich connectictut is dangerous too.
see where we’re going with this??
Park Slope is generally safe, but please everyone, be careful anyway. Don’t assume crime does not happen there or it’s an “isolated incident” when it does occur, as someone above claimed. Read the police blotter. My husband got mugged on a prime, North Park Slope block a few years ago. At 8pm not 3am. There have been many armed robberies the past couple years. Commerce Bank on 5th Ave has been robbed 3 times since it opened, already. No neighborhood will keep you immune from crime. I feel safe in Park Slope, but I’m always wary at night.
if a former police officer would come on this blog to say that 6th and 10th in park slope is dangerous, that means one of two things:
a. he’s a freakin liar.
b. new york city has become so insanely safe that anyone could, with a straight face make any mention of ANY part of park slope being dangerous. uh…have you ever been to clinton hill, prospect heights, sunset park…much less bed stuy, brownsville etc.
this is a joke, right??
Former officer, montgomery place is like a mile away from 6th ave and 11th street…what the hell are you talking about? Plus, I follow the police blotters regularly and this area is hardly ever in the news, maybe for something like a broken car window when someone leaves their laptop visible on the seat.
Look, of course anything can happen anywhere at anytime, but this is ABSOLUTELY one of the safest nabes in the south slope, and in fact, I would be willing to bet that more street crime happens in the “goochy” areas of Park Slope, like on the named streets, as well as PPW, 8th and 7th avenues towards all of their Flatbush intersections, than occurs here.
As a cop who walked the beat of Park Slope (and all of Park Slope, which stretches farther than you can imagine), I wouldn’t go near 6th Avenue as a place of residence. Every block has had crime of some kind on it and by every block, I mean even Montgomery Place (drug deals, especially). I live in the Slope stil, but wouldn’t go past 6th Avenue.
