House of the Day: 397 3rd Street
Oh, boy, this new listing at 397 3rd Street in Park Slope is so nice it almost makes us want to paint our wood floors white! Oh, boy, this new listing at 397 3rd Street in Park Slope is so nice it almost makes us want to paint our wood floors white! As the listing astutely points out, the four-story brick-and-brownstone house is not over-designed; it is, however, charmingly preserved with just the right touch of modern. It’s also well-styled for sale, with just enough well-chosen pieces to look good but empty enough to be a blank canvas for the fantasies of the aspiring homeowner. All this good stuff don’t come cheap though: the asking price is $3,695,000.

“Being closer to that commercial stretch of 5th ave is more desirable than any part of 7th ave.”
For young renters, sure. For people spending over 3 million dollars on a home, absolutely not true.
Hate the white floors as well, and hate the white kitchen too.
white – you either like it or you don’t.
Presumably painted white because the boards were in too rough condition to do anything else with them. I don’t mind how they look in photos but wouldn’t want to live with them. Nice house but etson is right — the price would only work on 3rd btw the park and 8th or btw 7th and 8th. Pig three: quite appreciate that many may prefer proximity to 5th Ave but that’s not the conventional iwsdom for pricing in PS.
I’d f**k these floors up in seconds, especially if I bought the place and had $$$ i’d convert the fireplaces and then really screw these floors up. what does one do when guests come over- give them those cloth booties to put over their shoes?
Love the white floors (assuming they were damaged beyond repair….). But can you say children? Pets?

Looks about as inviting as an operating table.
It’s a very formal parlour. The white floors cheapen the look.
You’ll never get all of the white out from between them either if you want to sand them back to natural.
This house is right down the street from where I live. I believe the Benson factor is fairly reflected in the price.
