Wow. Could this 4,000-square-foot spread at The Montauk Club be the coolest apartment in all of Brooklyn? If it had outdoor space it would be a lay-up. As is, though, the entire floor of the historic club is pretty darn impressive, with its 45-foot-long ballroom and original leaded glass windows, mahogany wainscotting and inlaid mosaic tiles. Crazy. This time, the listing’s claim that this is a “once in a lifetime offering” isn’t B.S.

  1. Problem with this place is the noise coming up from the parties, weddings, bar mitzvah’s etc. below. Drove the prior owner mad – lots of complaints to police, lawsuits, etc.

  2. I agree – this place is stunning, but what exactly is the potential purchaser of a place like this? I feel anyone looking to drop 4 million on a condo would look in manhattan, and anyone with 4 million to burn that wanted to live in park slope would prefer a brownstone. but i digress, if i had the cash i would prefer this over a house.

  3. Very cool Pole. I didn’t realize you played!

I was more interested in curating a monthly or bi-monthly series or something, but good to know about the piano situation. Are the acoustics any good?

On a slightly unrelated note, you MUST check out the new Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Was there last night for the opening and it’s pretty spectacular.

Chamber music happens at the place frequently. While I’m not a member, I have played there before. The Brooklyn Conservatory has classes there, so there are a number of pianos that are all in tune.

If you are willing to play for free, they’ll let your group without a problem.

  5. I think sam is right. Wasn’t this the building where there was an unit (duplex?)last year that looked interesting but came with a capital assessment of $100K or so?

Agree that it does not look like a “home.” And most people who would love the interior would be more likely to be a house than living above a club.
