It looks like it might need a lick of fresh paint, but this Bay Ridge one-bedroom has a spacious layout, wood floors, and Art Deco details for under the $300,000 mark. It location on a high floor of a six-story elevator apartment building at 351 Marine Avenue also gives some glimpses of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
At the corner of 4th Avenue, the pale brick building with 104 apartments and commercial space at street level was constructed by the Marine Building Corporation and designed by Max Hirsch. Plans were filed in December of 1930 and a final certificate of occupancy was issued in July of 1931. Ads for the new building promised “exceptionally large rooms” and waterfront views.
According to the listing, this unit has bridge views from the living room and bedroom. It also has the practical layout of the era, with a foyer, generously sized living room and bedroom, three closets, and a windowed kitchen. There are high ceilings, arched doorways, picture rails, vintage tile, and parquet with inlaid borders in some rooms.
The windowed kitchen has wood cabinets, a linoleum floor, and room for a style refresh.
In the bathroom some nice Deco details have survived, like the green square wall tile, black border tiles and accessories, tub, and medicine cabinet. The linoleum might be hiding original floor tile — or could be replaced with period-appropriate repro tile to freshen the space.
Amenities in the building include laundry and a live-in super. Rented by the current owner, a storage unit is available for $50 a month. Subletting is allowed after one year of ownership. Monthly maintenance for this apartment is $918.
Listed by Mark Maguire of John A. Maguire Real Estate, the one-bedroom is asking $285,000. What do you think?
