Pretty impressive!

There are zoned primary schools. In general there aren’t zoned middle schools, but kids will apply to schools in the district where they live (or where they went to primary school). For high school it’s generally city-wide, so no issues with zone or district.
I wouldnt say private school is chump change for someone who is able to buy a 2.7M house. private schools cost 40k or so. if these folks have 3 kids, that’s 120k/yr. such buyer would still be a be to afford it but it aint chump change.

less all-pink brownstones?
“What does more conservative than Park Slope mean? Voting Republican? Not liking French bistros?”
Fewer organic stores 🙂
“you are zoned for the district. Each school district theoretically has to provide middle schooling for every pupil of age in the district”
ditto, exactly, this is my understanding, too. And, given their popularity, a lot of middle schools are now refusing students from outside their districts.
I don’t get the private school comments. It is not like the seats in private schools are increasing. Not with every new 2m house, coop or condo new private school seats are created….
“Mr. Dahill, welcome back. We must talk.”

Adam, meant to add, “Speaking of buying in Cobble Hill . . . “.
“Private school tuition would be chump change to someone who can buy a $2.7 million house.”
Right – so how would good public schools influence their buying price? – it wouldn’t.
teamslap – thats not correct that there are no zoned schools – you are zoned for the district. Each school district theoretically has to provide middle schooling for every pupil of age in the district. It doesn’t have to provide you a specific school though, it just has to be a middle school within the district. As you say, you can apply for schools outside of your district. Whether you get in or not is another matter.
