The 142-unit new development at 34 Berry Street (which in a rare moment of developer naming clarity is being called 34 Berry) is open for business. The building has a mix of studios, one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms along with the requisite mix of “luxury” amenities like an iPod-wired lounge, a rooftop terrace and a fitness center; 71 lucky people will also be able to rent a parking space in the building. The website doesn’t have prices listed yet but from what we understand studios will start at $1,750, one-bedrooms at $2,400 and two-bedrooms at $3,820.

  1. Just saw the floor plans, geez, how many studio apartments did they make??, why not combine some of them and make bigger apartments. Do people actually like living in 1 room???? beats me.

The courtyard does look like a college dorm.

    Not loving it.

  2. I don’t hate you Gowanus Girl, I hear ya lound and clear!
    Gowanus is cool too.
But here in Bath Beach I have a paid off Co-op, brand new truck, walk 1 block to trains, shopping everywhere on 86th, Belt Parkway 3 blocks away, safe neighborhood and have the flexibility of going anywhere I need to be…..While I know Bath Beach is not the most exciting “hood” in the world,(yawn) but I would not want to live near bars and restaurants anyway….that brings noise and drunks….and that is not the look.

So yeah, me thinks 2400 for a 1 bedroom rent is absolutely absurd. That should include free breakfeast, lunch and dinner plus a few snacks on the way…..

  3. Everything is fu@ked up. The economy sucks. Our government is leading us straight down the toilet Euro-style.

At least the weather is getting better.

  4. I pay less then half of that and have a private entrance, outdoor space in the front, and am 1 ave from 4 major subway lines. Sorry, I just had to say it. Don’t hate me. Gowanus for life.

  5. The strange thing is, I get $2400 for a one-bedroom, if it’s really nice and large. What I don’t get is $3800 for two-bedrooms. You’ve just cut out any (sane) families right there. It’ll all be shares. $2400 and $3000 sounds more reasonable — still really high, don’t get me wrong, but more in the realm of reality.

  6. > People that pay $2,400/mo for 1 BR apartments in Brooklyn
    > hang out in Manhattan.

Ah, of course. That explains why Bedford Ave is so desolate and devoid of people.
