What happened here! As of August, there was still some construction work left to do at Carroll Garden’s 114 4th Place, although a couple of the apartments had already gone on the market. Since then all four units were released and three have gone into contract, according to a broker for the project. While we don’t know final sales prices, two units entered contract while priced at over $1 million, while a third was asking $825,000. The last unit left is also priced at $825,000. Not too many interior pics to judge from. Has anyone been inside this place?

The building was definitely not having a good hair day when this photo was taken, but come on — this place is a no-brainer!
This is solid design by a reputable architect. The condos have tall ceilings, big open rooms, beautiful kitchens, and modern fixtures. Btw, the floor-to-ceiling windows on the south side of the building mean that each unit will be flooded natural light. No complaints there.
We already know that the location speaks for itself — promixity to some of the nabe’s best restaurants, parking next-door, subway a few blocks away, and a great school district to boot.
I would live here in a second.
NYGuy, I’m talking about a 5-10 min. walk vs. a 45 min. train ride/drive (e.g., asking for this place would probably be 100K less if it was on Henry and 4th). Big difference.
> a $100K premium (or whatever) for avoiding a 5/10 min. walk
I know! It’s almost as if location had some sort of bearing on real estate prices.
“But generally you probably agree with me, no?
I mean if Williamsburg had no good restaurants, shops or bars, would you have any desire to live there? ”
Yeah – I agree with you. Me personally – I’d probably still live there because
– still one stop from Manhattan
– i like living in industrial spaces/neighborhoods.
but anyways – this building looks cool as hell and it’s obvious most people don’t think outside aesthetics are as important as inside finishes and proximity to nightlife.
“Always seems strange to me the emphasis placed on being a couple blocks closer to [x] restaurant/bar. Honestly, how often do you need to go to said to make up for a $100K premium (or whatever) for avoiding a 5/10 min. walk?”
You just described probably the main reason quite a lot of people choose to live in the city rather than the suburbs.
Fair enough, dh.

“Most of the new construction in Williamsburg is 10 times more hideous than this and the ONLY reason people move to that neighborhood are for the resdtaurants/bars, etc. I mean, what else is there? So yes, this makes sense to me. ”
I’ll tell ya what’s not there – whiny frownstoners.

This building is hideous and even more insulting to me than 360 Smith street, which I hated the idea of but honestly isn’t awful – I mean it was a parking lot before. Anything think the subway entrance will reopen in “fall 2010” as currently advertised?
