If you own a house (or an apartment, for that matter) you undoubtably have a list of both chores that you NEED to do as well as dream improvements you’re dying to do when your checking account permits it. Let’s hear what your New Year’s resolutions are in the home improvement department. Personally, we’re hoping to splurge for some built-in bookshelves in the living room and upgrade the sound system. Unfortunately, unless ad rates and demand spikes, moving the kitchen down to the parlor floor will have to wait ’til 2012 or later…Have a great New Year. See you on the other side!
Dirty Hipster, watch out for the radioactive counters!
Dixiecup, I like your realistic attitude. 🙂
Ha ha ha Denton, yes, anything can be done quickly w sufficient funds!
We have to re-do our stoop and gate too, forgot. So is it possible to fill cracks? We tried that and it failed. $600.
I thought you already have a new roof and windows?
Getting rid of stuff is easy and fun! Says the woman w rooms and boxes bursting. Your place looks very decluttered and trim.
but it’s fun, Cgar.
Mrs. D finally fessed up the other day that she has the makings of a serial renovator. She would have no problem selling this house and starting all over again, she said.
Wow. Reading all your To Do Lists reminds me of why I sold my house, and why I really don’t think I want to buy another Brownstone.
Mr B, tell us about the sound system. Some of us are really into that stuff!
“dave- you could start a consultant business and do that now. If you set it up as a non-profit, you could get grants.”
dibs ain’t gonna be running around hat in hand to beg for grants.
We just did some minor masonry repair and crack filling in the front yard, stoop, or whatever it is. We had planned to paint the whole thing and then the cold wave struck.
Also hire one of the nabe ne’er-do-wells to scrape and paint the ironwork before it gets outta hand.
And we really, really should do the windows. But that’s a big expense.
After that, tear off the old roof and re-install. 2014?
And I’m a compulsive collector and Mrs. D a bit of a hoarder. We’re gonna try and de-clutter this year. Just started by putting a couple of dozen cookbooks on ebay.
Ahem. I see plenty o entrepreneurship in Bed Stuy.
Dave, go buy something at La Table Exquise. It is really good and I hear they need the business.
After the organic grocery comes in, can we have a yoga-hip hop dance class center?
