If you own a house (or an apartment, for that matter) you undoubtably have a list of both chores that you NEED to do as well as dream improvements you’re dying to do when your checking account permits it. Let’s hear what your New Year’s resolutions are in the home improvement department. Personally, we’re hoping to splurge for some built-in bookshelves in the living room and upgrade the sound system. Unfortunately, unless ad rates and demand spikes, moving the kitchen down to the parlor floor will have to wait ’til 2012 or later…Have a great New Year. See you on the other side!

I used the Weatherboard flooring ($8.00 psf) in a country house that has a more rustic look. It comes planed on the bottom, tongue and grooved and you do a rough sand on the top, stain and poly.
Congrats on the deck, wasder.
DIBS–thanks for the recommend on the floors. I wish I actually could sand some original floors. the owner’s duplex was never completed after a fire in the 90’s, so I’ve got nothing but subfloors down right now. instead I’ve gotta try to find some reclaimed flooring that looks like it belongs there, but doesn’t break the bank. happy new year!
Aw, so cute everybody.
Welcome back, Wasder.
Happy new year!
Just back from Australia this evening so missed this discussion. Will hopefully re-do our kitchen this year, and also need to fix the cornice. Would also like to re-do some of the floors. Deck got rebuilt this week so I can check that off the list.
oh and deal with basement. Wow, it is crammed with stuff already. Need to throw away a lot of things down there.
Have to do sooner rather than later:
Buy new washing machine
Install French drain in backyard
Put up some paintings that are leaning against the wall
When I get some dough:
Get custom bookcases on parlor floor
Install old pocket doors again but with glass installed in doors (patterned glass)
Install wetbar on parlor floor
1) finish stripping the door under the stoop and finally get it painted.
2) get a crystal chandelier for the middle parlor.
3) rebuild the stoop.
4) fix that darn gutter!
get a dog
