Home Surveillance Systems (All-weather)
There was a good thread on the old forum about this topic, maybe a couple of months back. You need to ensure that the software is stable. Anything below $500 is probably junk. If it is made in China, it is possible the software is pirated. So even though the hardware works, the software may crash. (I’ve installed security systems nationwide, and I learned this from a vendor. The company I was working for initially decided to try some cheap ones, and they literally lasted hours.)

I would like to inquire about home surveillance systems. What does the community recommend? I heard that Costco had some decent ones. The features I’m looking for include night vision, all-weather, motion detection and clarity. I wish to keep the cost below $500\. Any advice would be appreciated!

You simply are not going to find anything of high quality at that price point. The system costco carries is Qsee. The DVR has an NTSC output so you can monitor it with your tv (can’t use that old PC monitor). The cameras are IR but they are not varifocal so you can’t zoom in or out on what you want to protect. I am yet to see one of these DIY kits include varifocal cameras. They’re smartphone app is a disaster as well.
