Safe / security box alternative - creative ideas welcome!

  My Dad has a large coin collection which he’d like to keep safe in the building- it’s much more than a standard small safe could handle, more like enough to fill a 4 drawer file cabinet, maybe even 2 of them.  I’ve looked into getting a safe that large, but they’re incredibly heavy and I doubt we could get it down a set of stairs to where he wants to keep it.

  Any ideas?  I thought about creating a false wall to store in back of but not sure where to start.  I thought about a heavy duty locking file cabinet but he doesn’t think they’re secure enough.

  Any suggestions or ideas of ways to keep it secure in the building?  He owns the building so there are no limitations as far as making modifications- anyone deal with this sort of situation?

A good quality safe bolted to the floor is the only secure option. And with that there’s still the risk that someone would try to rob you and would make your father or whoever is home open the safe. The risk there is that you’ve escalated the situation from one where valuable things are taken while you are away to having to open the safe at gunpoint, which is obviously more dangerous for the people living there, especially if anybody might have trouble opening the safe quickly under intense pressure. The safest solution is to hold the most valuable coins off site, like in a safe deposit box at the bank. If someone knows the coins are in the house, they’ll likely find them no matter where you hide them if they have enough time to search.
