What's up with the Con Ed bill?

Hs anyone else noticed a big uptick in their Con Ed bill since the last month? December’s bill was 50% more than November’s, and January’s was even more. Our house is run on gas for heat/hot water, so the colder weather should not make an impact. Could they have raised their rates THAT much?

Hi – Ours mas much much higher, even though we have solar and work all day away from home, etc. They said it was actual, then acknowledged it “may not have been” and promised to send someone out. Always worth pursuing, as we have found they’ve been wrong a lot. Turned out, their meter reader read it wrong. Good news, they always refund if you pursue it.

Jump in charges: Supply charges went from 9.3661 cents per kWh to 14.3760…delivery charges went from 10.6 cents per to 11.14 cents per, etc. total electricity supply cost went from 10.2 cents to 15.3 cents per kWh.

Yes, I meant colder weather should not affect my electric bill, only the gas bill. I give readings myself, so estimated readings cannot be the issue. I am shaking my head because we do not do anything differently from month to month. No extra guests, no construction.

yes ours did……interestingly it said “actual reading” rather than estimated……which is what I thought the initial problem may have first been. having said that we had a lot of construction going on in December so could have been the reason behind it.

Rates have not gone up. They would inform you if they did, plus you’d learn about it on the news. My costs did not go up last month. Was one of the readings estimated? If so that could account for it.
