Uniform trash cans??

Hello friends! One of my neighbors mentioned that he had seen some blocks in Brooklyn that have uniform trash cans in front of every building. He said they were nice, with flip lids and serial numbers. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in Brooklyn; has anyone seen such a wonder?? Where?? I’m assuming if this happens, the neighbors probably just band together and buy them en masse, but perhaps there’s more to the story…anyone have any info on this? Thanks in advance!

In Australia all garbage is collected in bins like this, and they use a mechanical arm to lift the bins into the truck (eg. single driver/operator) Google “Wheelie bin” or “Sulo bins”. No idea how they are getting them “over the cars” here in NY on garbage collection day though.

I noticed them on DeKalb Avenue in Bed Stuy. My thought was that the city issued them to blocks with serious rat problems.

Yeah, one of the blocks of Macon has these somewhere between Marcus Garvey and Patchen (can’t remember which). I tried to find where they came from online but no luck. They’re nice looking and look official.

Are they gray and say “Can It” on the side? Our block association has been trying to track them down. Sanitation said they know nothing about it, try contacting Health Department. Health Dept. knows nothing about them, either. As far as we can tell, they were delivered by the trash can fairies (a creature even more elusive than the unicorn). Anyway, if anyone knows how to get these, please share!

He’s probably referring to the City-supplied compost bins. They’re only in a few neighborhoods for now.
