Structural Work

We are about to commence with a renovation and we have all of our contractors selected with the exception of the structural work for removing the existing rear walls of our brownstone. These walls are being removed to allow for the extensions to be open to the rest of the house. Does anyone have any recommendations they can share to do this type of work.

Others are correct that your contractor will do the actual work on this, but you will need a structural engineer to oversee it. I highly recommend Celin Munoz. He was the structural engineer on our project (which necessitated very similar work) and he was terrific. Worked very well with our contractor and architect, provided great guidance on all structural requirements and oversaw all structural elements of both our home opening and general work. Extremely professional, proactive, made more frequent visits than we anticipated (all within the price of the work) and clearly very capable, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him again (and both our contractor and architect now work with him frequently). What about your contractor(s)? Removing a structural wall and puting a Steel beam in place is regular construction work.
