Nick at Leak Master Roofing. I got estimates from various contractors for roof repairs on my brownstone and his price was about the same as the others though he clearly had the most experience of the lot. He was punctual, responsive and efficient, and he was conservative: He didn’t try to upsell me on extra work. A few days after he put down the roof — a one-day job — I noticed some buckling in one area. I called him and he showed up promptly and solved the issue. He even checked in by phone several weeks later, after a period of hot, sunny weather, to see how everything was holding up. This may not sound like a classic recommendation, but as everyone knows, unexpected issues can arise during any job, particularly with old brownstones. The key here was Nick’s response to an unforeseen problem. While many contractors may have taken the money and run, Nick clearly feels responsibility for his work and loyalty to his clients well after the check has cleared — a rare trait.
