Framehouse facade design
Hi, We are planning on renovating the hideous and crumbling facade of our south slope townhouse. Does anyone have photos of their knock-out exteriors they’d like to send us? Or know of good sources to see the same? We’d love to see ideas! We have a large bay window across our front, so houses with bay windows of particular interest. Also happy for recs/warnings on contractors, or any other pitfalls or tips anyone would like to share. We will be replacing most of the windows on the house, doing the facade, our stoop, and front door. Thanks!

“The house will have Hardiplank Artisan cement board siding” Yes, lots of hardiplank siding in the neighborhood. that’s what we used. The plain side looks nicer painted up than the grain side.

I have a client on 13th street between 4th and 5th Avenues with one of those wood frame houses. I designed a new stoop and facade that provides a really nice level of detail appropriate for the house without being overly expensive. The job is currently under construction. The house will have Hardiplank Artisan cement board siding, new Marvin windows, and Certainteed Carriage House hex shingles. Feel free to contact me, I’d be happy to share more information about the project. www.josephkoelbelarchitect.com

Stroll down the following blocks with a camera: 1.11th Street between 3rd-4th aves — lots of nicely renovated frame facades. Best selection of renovated frame facades in the neighborhood 2\. 13th street between 4-5 aves — a few tall. colorful frames with lots of trim and some with mansard roofs, perhaps some bay windows. 3\. Windsor place between 7-8 aves. 4\. Webster place. Also, 13th just above 5th, the yellow house on 12th near 6th, the white house on 12th just above 6th, a few examples on 14th between 5-6 and a nice, colorful row mid-block on 14th between 6-7 aves. Do it on a sunny weekend day and you may fine some homeowners outside their houses willing to talk facade. Also, go to woodenhouseproject.com. that blog captured a lot of the more nicely done south slope and Ft. greene frames. http://woodenhouseproject.com/index.php/2013/07/17/six-south-slope-houses-pre-restoration/
