Fencing Advice

Hi All, I am installing a terraced patio in my backyard where the back portion (by the back fence) will be raised about 1-2 ft above ground level. In installing my fence, I know the city ordinances call for a maximum height of up to 5-6ft above ground level. If a portion of the ground is raised (for a patio), would the maximum height of the fence be 5-6ft over the raised patio height? Hoping others have some insights/experience here! Thanks in advance!

We were wondering the same thing. Our neighbor’s yard is raised so the 6′ fence on our side doesn’t give us the privacy we’d like…Thanks for suggestion on trellis, that’s a good one.

The reason for the law is to give firemen easy access over fences so the 6′ rule applies to the garden behind yours. People get around that by topping the fence w/ a trellis or something equally easily breached.
