brownstone flower box / planter

hi – i’m looking for someone to build/install exterior window planter boxes on the parlor floor of a brownstone. the exterior ledge is very small so the planter would need to be attached to the facade in some way. looking for simple, affordable planters for two windows. does anyone have any suggestions? thank you!

It really depends on the depth of the ledge. If you have less than 6″, you are going to need to attach the planters. The method will depend on the building, because you want it to look good, like it belongs to the existing façade. Whatever you do, please don’t drill into the windowsill; water works its way downward, and the freeze-thaw-freeze cycle of the average New York winter makes drilling a very unwise choice.

A friend of mine had an iron worker fabricate very strong U-shaped supports w/ a slight bow on the bottom of the U & flanges like a horseshoe that were bolted under the sills. They’ve lasted 20 years.
