Basement Doors
I am now dealing with the basement part of my house and am about to replace the front doors for the basement: the first entrance one and the second right after it. I am getting a metal custom made under stoop one with glass cover but I am not sure what the second door should be like? Can it be a regular wooden door? Should be fire proof one? I want it to have a large window so I get more light. Any recommendations as to what’s customary for the basement entrance doors? For the exit going into the backyard, I have a fire proof one. Thank you

I lined the gate w/ a custom screen so I get a nice breeze in good weather but no flies nor mosquitoes.

Assuming you mean the garden level floor and not the cellar …. For the front we used the original metal gate (no glass or plexi) followed by a wooden door (in eye-catching fire engine red!). In the rear we used a half window / half door combination. We rent the space and in order to legally declare a second bedroom, we needed a certain size window opening. There is only a tiny window in this room, so this was our way of getting the window requirement and means of egress at the same time. We also left the original screen door in place. As far as I can recall, neither door is fire-rated.

This is what Open Houses and house tours are for, to go see how others have renovated, updated etc. Come September there will be more open houses, and there are a couple of neighborhoods that have their House Tours in the fall, although off the top of my head I cannot name them.
