Accordion ladder and condensation

I have an accordion ladder that leads to the roof. When it’s cold, like it has been, condensation gets trapped in the area that the ladder folds into, freezes on the side of the metal hatch, and then eventually thaws and drips back down into the upper floor. Any ideas on how to solve this? The attic is well insulated, but the hatch area is apparently not.

I believe you have answered your own question. “insulation”. You should insulate that area where the hatch is located.
