80 Year Old Insulation In Skylight

Can anyone tell me what my skylight is insulated with? Please see picture. What would be the modern alternative to this old and decaying insulation? I thought I might just replace it as I’m up there painting and re-sheet rocking the area under the skylight and venting. Thanks.

Ok… So I sprayed 2 cans of spray-foam insulation up there between the vents….. And… My whole brownstone became 8-10degrees warmer over about 30minutes. Best $14 I’ve spent on any sort of insulation.

Looks like fiberglass. I put rigid foam boards on the outside to cover those openings. I have also heard of using bubblewrap which would be easier and makes sense given that you can cover the top, making it waterproof yet still lets light through

Rigid foam insulation adhered to the boards is a option. Sandwiching it between the boards and a layer of drywall is also another option.

could be anything, animal hair or loose fiberglass. Although this doesn’t look like it some types of attic insulation can contain asbestos. I would just seal the gaps with spray foam or silicone against draft.
