New Stone for Fireplace Hearth?
I think it would be hard to find a white stone to match the mantle. I’d do a honed absolute black granite. $60-80 psf. Call Swan Tile.

We would like to put in a new stone hearth in front of our marble fireplaces. We can’t decide if we prefer a dark stone (e.g., slate) to contrast the white marble or instead stick with a white marble to have it blend in better. What was typically used in Italianate ~1880 Park Slope brownstones? What is the original look?
Also, do you have any recommendations on suppliers and installation? What costs should we expect?
Thank you!
