Hello YesBrooklyn,

Looks like your getting into the nitty gritty of the design, but have you backed up a little & asked yourself whats important to YOUR kitchen? Technology is wild these days – nothing is impossible. Once you figure out the amenities, (concealed trash, pan cabinets) you could talk to a professional to help out a bit before you have to spend a ton of dough!

Curious about floor plan tools online for the lay person. Planning a renovation and I’d like to visualize the floor plan and adjust according to existing furniture, etc. Being able to manipulate object in birds-eye-view space would be great. Thoughts? Thanks in advance

Buy a roll of red rosin paper ( not too expensive 3 ft x 100 ft) a roll of 2 ” blue tape, a 2 ft x 18″ square, a 3 ft straight edge, a scissors, a cheap utility knife, a tape measure and a couple of sharpies. Measure the furniture you want to keep and make a paper template of the footprint of the furniture. This way you can move it around to your hearts content until you are happy with the layout. You can also use the blue tape to lay out any new walls you are going to build

i used google sketchup for a bit but it wasn’t super easy to work with. my go-to at home and at work is a pad of graph paper. i cut out to-scale versions of the furniture and move them around to my hearts’ content. don’t forget to label the furniture cutouts as you make them because you WILL forget. the online tools are more trouble than they’re worth.

Back before their were anyhing but mainframe computers I used graph paper and scale cut outs for laying out my then-new kitchen, This was the functional equivilent of the software Maggie O suggests. It worked, but I really like the life-sized suggestion in the first answer.
