Gut Renovation Dust

Hi, Are there rules concerning dust from construction? We’re next door to a building being gut renovated and clouds of dust have billowing from the house all day and from the dumpster when workers dump debris in the dumpster. Will talk to the contractor and the neighbor but am wondering if there are protocols that contractors should be following. Young kids live in the buildings neighboring the building being gutted.

technically the contractor should have a “dust mitigation plan” and it should be available for inspection. when you talk to the contractor and/or neighbor you should ask for this plan. if you are friendly with the neighbor make sure to point out that failure to produce either a dust mitigation plan or a noise mitigation plan upon random inspection by DOB will result in violations. I’m not going to recommend you call 311 until you make an attempt to communicate directly with the neighbor or the contractor.
