Water/sewage Main

Hi, we don’t a problem yet but we are looking for someone to check and possible replace our water/sewage main lines. Does anyone recommend a company that they worked with in the past? Thank you in advance.

No “no-permits”, there was NO such notice. My neighbor called the City because it appeared that THEIR water main was leaking. The DEP workers dug up the main and told my neighbor that they’d have to shut off their water. When they did so it was actually MY water that was shut off. Neither the DEP workers, my neighbor, nor I knew that water mains were laid diagonally on my block in 1899; the water main leaking in front of my neighbor’s house was actually mine. When the City replaced the water main running the length of my block several years later I could see that everyone’s main was installed in a similar matter?the individual water mains foe each of the 84 houses were connected to the City main in front of one house to the east. If you’re correct about a three day notice being required I might have been able to dispute that charge. It was back in the mid-90s, so it’s too late now.

@bobmarvin, you must have ignored the 3 day notice if they turned your water off and charged you. that’s your own fault. my advice to the OP is to wait until you have an issue with one of the two, then do both assuming you have a lead main or clay sewer.

“if you don?t have a problem, why are you trying to fix it?” Well, if the OP has the original lead water main and clay sewer pipe its pretty much a ticking bomb, so, if they can spare the $$$, replacement before they fail isn’t a bad idea. Having done both on an emergency basis I can tell you that it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Had I done both at the same time I’d probably have saved a bit on labor and I’d certainly have saved the $500 the City charged me for digging up my water main to shut it off (and re-fill the hole, so that the plumber could dig it up again the next day). The City workers who shut off my water were kind enough to tell me how I could hook my neighbor’s hose to my interior water pipes, so I wasn’t without water for long, but had I been winter, or if my neighbor had been unwilling it would have been much worse. When my sewer line became irreparably clogged it was pretty bad having sh*t literally pile up over a weekend while waiting for the Plumber.

sewer and water main will cost you $17k combined at a minimum. the sewer is significantly more than the water.

balkan is very professional and they have the best prices around. no one can beat balkan as liberty and harris both told me. if you don’t have a problem, why are you trying to fix it?

We used Alex Figliolia for both our sewer line and water main. Both jobs were done on an emergency basis, so we couldn’t compare prices, but they did a good job.

We had a good experience with Harris Water Main and Sewer. They showed up when they said they would, they were fairly priced (this is an expensive job), and the guys seemed to do a great job. I would highly recommend them.
