Recommendation for water main/sewer line inspection?

The city will “probably” fix our sidewalk (damage done by city owned tree) sometime between July 2017 and June 2018, so I’m wondering if I should get someone to look at our water main and/or sewer line to see if they look like they need to be replaced and do that work before the city fixes the sidewalk. Are there independent companies that have cameras that can look at the pipes?

Or, is that a crazy idea and I should just forget it?

dougb – Thanks for the info on your water line replacement.. As far as my sidewalk goes, IF the city repairs it, it will be through the Trees and Sidewalks program. It’s taken about 1.5 years, and been totally annoying, and I still don’t know if they will do it, though they acknowledge the damage is due to a city tree. I need to call them back in July (started this process in November 2015) and they should be able to tell me for sure if it will be fixed sometime between July 2017 and June 2018. But, there’s no reason not to see if the city will fix your neighbor’s sidewalk.

Is the sidewalk being repaired under the city’s Trees and Sidewalks program? If so, how bad was the damage to the sidewalk? (Can you share a picture?) How long ago did you request they assess the sidewalk? I’m interested in helping our neighbors apply, but only if there is a chance the city will fix it for them.

Just had our water line replaced for around $5000- they dug one hole in the street and one in our front yard. Sewer line replacement is much more expensive. Even if it turned out they needed to dig in the sidewalk area being repaired the savings on the job would be only marginal.

I wouldn’t trust Rotorouter to do a thing. The people they employ are completely incompatant. Call Chris at 718-669-8429. He will do it for much less and do a much better job. He did ours and is a good guy and hard worker.

Rotorouter will do it for $200-$500. They’ll come out with a camera and diagnose any problem. You’ll need to hire a good sewer company to actually fix any breaks.
