Fire Sprinkler Inspection
Trying to figure out fire-sprinkler inspection. I have a 4 multifamily with a fire sprinkler system. I have to do the monthly checks and annual check by the certified company. I don’t live on-site so I can’t self cert the monthly checks. But I also need the 5 year Fire Department inspection. The company I called said I will get a notice from the FDNY to do the inspection. But I have not received it yet. It is a new gut reno with all new sprinkler system but I just passed the first five year mark. Trying to do the right thing and not get a violation or fine. Has anyone else have first hand knowledge of this?

yes you can inspect your own (monthy). read up on the cert of fitness on the FDNY page. I had the sprinkler certificate at one time and I think it was the w-12\. not sure. as for the five year, that is something different and you will need one of the firms who can come and pump that system up to pressure. we used to use Allstate. it has been 10 yrs now since my certs expired, so I really cannot answer any more than I said here. I think the City deliberately sets up this system as a revenue collection system because you did not do something, they send the notices to the wrong address: prior owner, the building itself, not that that is the registered address for notices etc. Get one of the many licensed plumbers that are set up just for doing these, annual, monthly etc. inspections; sprinklers, boilers etc. it goes in the computer system and gets done as it is due. Because trying to get someone at the City to listen and then answer your question correctly is almost impossible.
