Brooklyn 3 family - water shutoff for each apartment??
I’m renovating a 3 family in Brooklyn. Does each apartment require it’s own water shutoff valve in the unit?
My condo in Manhattan has a shut off valve for the entire apartment: kitchen, bathroom and laundry. The valve was located in the bathroom vanity.

Also remember that it might be necessary to repair/replace a fixture shutoff valve. Good not to shut off all the water in the building to do that.

There is a shutoff for each fixture except the bathtub and the shower. But like everyone here has said, if work needs to be done on the shower or tub, it’s nice to not have to shut off the whole building.

Keep in mind, if work has to be done later or something goes wrong in a unit, the entire building has to be shut down until a plumber can be had. This kind of thing will really annoy the tenants.

I am not sure if it requires it but put them in for your own peace of mind and for the tenants and the people below the tenants and the workers who might change a faucet in one later. This is little expense with big benifits if something goes wrong later.
