Must I consult a lawyer before I put an offer for a shortsale?

shortsale with tenants in the house? I would recommend to get a lawyer on board. You should have one at hand anyway already if you are buying soon. Also, make sure the house in not an SRO, because then you have the problems if the current landlord tortures the tenants to make them leave, hahaha

I am looking into a shortsale brownstone with tenants and no guarantee for vacant delivery. Although, the agent said that the eviction process has started.

Should I hire a lawyer if I want to put an offer?
If I need advice whether to proceed or find other property, how much would it generally cost

first thing: “agent said” means nothing unless there is a written statement backed up by the escrow.

First of all, beware of anything a bank names. A “short” sale is actually extremely long and complicated. The bank can drag you around for months and then back out at the last minute with no explanation. I’d get a lawyer before I went anywhere near this.
