Any info on this lot?

The empty lot next to the Montauk Club on 8th avenue has always interested me… who owns it and why is it empty? must be worth a fortune?
They are working on the Club’s north wall, so it caught my eye this morning…

Used to be the club’s tennis court .. clay I think … was sold off by the club a number of years ago … within the past twenty years … to raise funds.  a taller than usual building, something like eleven stories, was proposed, but never built…not as bad thing, in my opinion, as it was out of scale.  whoever owns it now knows it is a development opportunity.
