brucef – No idea about the flue sharing. I just assumed it would be good.  Thank you, that will be one of the questions I ask. lgindi – thanks for recommendation

Brownstoners –
I just bought a place with an oil furnace without a hot water tank.  The furnance heats the water on an ‘on-demand’ basis..  With 9 people in the house all wanting hot water, this is creating a huge oil bill.  I would like to install a tank but not connected via the furnance but powered by gas.  The house already has a gas connection, so its just a matter of installing the boiler and hooking it up.  Sounds easy, not sure because I have to divert the furnance from the water heating source but continue to use it for steam heat.  Any recommendations on plumbers who can do this task?
Thanks!

Give Tri-state a call and speak to Sean. 347-362-6266\. They have a licensed plumber who worked on our gut Reno which included boiler work. Good luck!

While gas at thia time is a cheaper source of energy, there are complications when mixing gas and oil in the same flue. As long as both devices are mid effiency or less, they will allow both in the same flue as long as the BTU calculations work.      I will make the same offer I have made previously, in that we have two oil fired hot water

Sorry, this browser is terrible. As I was saying, we have two oil fired hot water heaters, Lochinvar, that are a few years old, but have unbelievable recovery rates. If you can use one we would sell one for a nominal amount. You would be able to use the oil you already have, while saving for a future gas conversion.
