radiator smell

The smell will go away. That is the sweet smell of success (a non-leaking pipe)!

Hi all– we just had the piece replaced that opens and shuts the radiator (it was leaking) and now that it is on (and leak solved) there is a waxy, sweet smell in the room. I see a small amount of black sealant (?) where a small pipe section meets the radiator. Is it that? Will that smell go away? Are there alternate thread sealants (if that is what the black stuff is) that do not have an odor? Or perhaps the smell is just the new part (the round plastic handle and copper?) Any help is appreciated as it is shame to have to open the window and let the cool air in to help the smell…..thanks!
