Need old fuel oil tank removed, fill pipe filled. Who to call?

The house we recently purchased formerly used fuel oil as a fuel source for the boiler. The old steel tank is still present in a corner of our basement. The tank should be removed from the home as the current boiler is served with natural gas. Also, a fuel oil fill port remains outside the eastern side of the home. At the recommendation of our inspector, the fill port cover should be removed and the pipe permanently filled to the surface with concrete to ensure that fuel oil is not accidentally delivered. We are going to be renovating but if we want to take care of those items sooner, what sort of professional would do this removing/filling, etc? Thanks for any insight!

Call Boro Waste Oil, LLC 718-385-0502 boromechanical@gmail.com www.Borowasteoil.com All they do is remove old oil boilers/tanks etc. They will file everything for you. I have used them a few times, they are quick, efficient and considering how filthy the job can be, very clean. If you call a licensed plumber they will sub the job to them or one of the other companies that specialize in this and charge you the override.

Thanks for the information! I think it’s a standard size. We’ll be doing renovations in a few months for which we’ll need permits and it would undoubtedly be addressed then, but we were thinking of taking care of before that time. I’m thinking we could just remove/cement over the fill pipe, but leave the tank for the time being, as no one can mistakenly fill the pipe anyway? It looks big but I think it’s a standard size, those old big black ones…

If oil tank is a standard 275 gallon tank, then licensed plumber can remove it and supply affidavit to dob and fd. If there is a bigger tank, you need to hire licensed oil boiler installer to do the same. Vent and fill lines must be removed, openings must be repaired. Fill line can be also cemented outside after cap removal. If fill line left as is There is a chance that your neighbor’s oil is pumped into your basement. It is happening once in a while. Also this affidavit is a part of permit closing. Was the permit closed for this conversion?
