Whole house fan for brownstone?
I looked into getting a whole house fan many years ago and couldn’t find any with a housing made for a flat roof; perhaps things have changed since. As to solar powered fans, I think they’re intended to vent attics during the hottest part of the day, when the sun is shining to provide solar power. If any are made with batteries to work at night I doubt that they’d be very powerful or long running.

We are looking into installing a solar-powered whole-house fan on the top floor of our brownstone–my understanding is that we would turn it on in the evening to suck the hot air out and allow cooler air to enter through the windows. The top floor of the house gets horribly hot in summer and we have read that this can make a significant difference without using inefficient window air conditioners (and thus adding to our global warming problem).
Does anyone have a whole house fan in a brownstone? Does it work well? Can you recommend a model?
