McQuay PTAC repair or replacement

I have a McQuay PTAC (pdns model with hydronic heat) that is 5+ years old and needs a new compressor.  The few companies that I’ve called are estimating $1,100 or more to replace the compressor.  This seems rather high considering the technology in these units, and that it appears that you can purchase new units on the net for about the same price (http://hdsupplysolutions.com/shop/product-9_000_btu_mcquay_pdan_series_ptac-212020).  I would prefer to find repair the unit, and have called all of the places listed in the forum archive without luck (no answer, or callback).  My questions are thus: 1) Is it worth repairing a compressor? 2) If so, does anyone have a suggestion for a reliable and reasonably priced McQuay repairman in the downtown Brooklyn area? 3) If it is not worth repairing a McQuay PTAC compressor, I’d appreciate a referral to PTAC salesperson for McQuay or an alternative, preferably quieter brand that can fit a 42 inch McQuay sleeve and is compatible with a highrise heating system.

there isn’t that much technology in the units. they known more for being workhorses and fairly reliable (in this case i guess not).   if that is in fact your size model and it costs the same, yes i would def. get a new one.  the price of the compressor sounds about right, but i am shocked your entire unit is so cheap, i think mine is more like $3500 (i have a different model, and larger, but same compressor price).
