Recommendation for WiFi Thermostat for 6 Family

I have no idea whether they are suitable for your purpose, but I have the Honeywell Vision Pro in my apartment and in my house. There is an internet interface (sort of like its own wireless modem) , which you might be able to place on the middle floor to bridge the distance, or you can move the thermostat to the middle floor. You can connect battery powered remote temperature sensors and the thermostat can use the remote temperature, or average the temperatures. The remote access application is very well done. Really, you rarely need to access the thermostat itself — mine are in a closet.

I have an outdated heat timer that needs to be replaced. I see most of the wifi thermostats are geared towards single Fam residential use. I like the ecobee but the sensors can only be placed a maximum of 45 feet from the panel. This won’t work with the panel located in the basement. Any suggestions or an experienced hvac that specializes in this? I’m in Brooklyn.

If you have multi family house, there is no way around outdoor reset control, unless you switch to indoor reset. Look at tekmar brand.

How big is this building that a sensor 45 feet from the panel is too close?

It’s a mixed use commercial store on first floor and 6 residential apartments on floors 2-4. 25×65 and 4 stories. I currently have a heat timer control. It needs to be changed as it’s about 15 years old and I already changed the outdoor sensor once. The timer is not working right and I believe the heat just comes on full blast cause the apartments are unbearable hot. I’ve read and heard about others having success with wifi thermostats. A friend of mine has the ecobee installed on a 3 Family and it works great. He is able to adjust the temp from his smart phone if needed. It works off sensors placed in the apartments. However the ecobee website says sensors must be within 45 feet of the panel. In my case the apartments on the 4th floor possibly 3rd may not reach the panel which would be located in the basement. An option would be to move it to the hallway. Just want to see if anyone else is using this or anything else for this type of building. Or any suggestions out there. Honeywell vision pro came up on a search but not too much info on any of these.

Heattimers and similar outdoor reset controls are working fine in thousands of buildings across the country. Get qualified people to set it up properly, especially placement of indoor and outdoor sensors. I had seen many attempts to control buildings with sensors, thermostats and so on. Not going to work no matter what sales people will sing you. Problem is that heating inertia plays big role in controlling building temperature, so control must predict building behavior in different conditions.

Tekmar 279 for a steam system can be wired with outdoor, return (or end of line) and indoor sensors
