Oil tank replacement. Urgent

Thanks for the immediate responses. We are investigating gas conversion even though we just installed a new oil furnace 2 years ago. In the long run going gas may be the best way to go. These old houses have expensive lessons. I want to hang on, yet my husband is ready to say 30+ years enough. Can’t figure out where to go…sorry Hudson Valley ain’t it.

We contracted with Petro fuel for oil deliveries. They found our oil tank was leaking. We are now capped with temporary tank outside and need a quick and reliable replacement of our 275 gallon tank. Dept of Environ Control has to certify once job is complete. Fees on temp tank begin to accrue after day 20 and it is already day 5\. Any information or referrals welcomed estimates are rumoured to be $5k and up. Thanks.

Did you ask Petro? They are very relaible service providers as well. Or, they certainly would know who to recommend if they don’t do removals but I believe practically all fuel providers do removals. Mine in PA did.

To take out an old tank and replace with a new one will run you a few thousand dollars, $5,000 seems about right. It might be time to think about converting to Gas.

so where is the tank in the basement or in the ground? we tired of ours and the space it was taking up and I cut mine up and got rid of it – they do not fit out the door and are built in place, right? scrap guy took the metal. we installed a roth double wall tank. for a while these were not legal in the city but now are. the neat thing is is the size, it will fit in a doorway. the one we got was the 160 gallon. I do believe the 200 gallon has the same footprint. some people install two of the 160’s. the tanks are about 400 each – someone in ct had new ones on ebay two years ago. they have a distributor in Floral Park. there may be ways around the 5k and there was for me. also, as some mentioned, time for a gas conversion. if I had to pay someone 5k, I would have gone gas – hands down.
