Mitsubishi HyperHeat (ductless split)

This guy not only installed mini splits but also has split personality. This is what he said in a previous thread–in effect suggesting another heating system. “I have HVAC for heat+cool, and although I have tight insulation and superb windows I?d still recommend to consider hydronic/baseboard for many reasons. Mainly because hydronic is a less complicated system to install correctly. Even if you go with HVAC I would highly recommend to install the piping for hydronic as a backup option while the walls are open. A few pipes are easily installed at low cost. ” By the way h2i have considerably improved since 2 years ago.

Has anyone on the forum used the Mitsubishi Hyperheat heating and cooling system? We need to decide on a heating and cooling system, and my contractor is very pro this system. They have found it becoming more popular with developers and think the system provides for cleaner air than a duct AC/Heat system. Anyone care to chime in? Any thoughts on what it will do to my Con Ed bill?

I had a Mitsubishi h2i installed 2 years ago. The system works good. It’s a MUST to have it installed by someone who is a pro and has a good contact to Mitsubishi. ConEd bill will depend on many factors like size of the building, attached/detached, and overall insulation. A major factor is also if you’re OK with moderate temperatures or if you like to live in an oven in winter aand a freezer in summer. Many people in NYC are not used to average room temperatures because many systems can’t be regulated so they have been educated to live more in more hot/cold rooms than necessary. This is important because cranking the system will result in a significantly higher bill in winter than creating high temperatures with gas. I average at $ 300 / month on Green Mountain Energy (a couple cents more than ConEd) for all season heating & cooling a 3 family with 4300 sqf. That is a very good number – but it is important to note that I have triple pane passive house windows, partial 4″ EIFS in the back of the house and 2″ Polyiso under the roof membrane.

Thanks for the insight. We’re going to do spray foam insulation and get good upgraded windows. That $300 number is not bad – is that your main heating system as well?

Yes that is the only heating system in the house.
