energy audit - inspection/advisor recs

the state offers a free service to have energy audits done by local approved vendors. the state will reimburse the vendor. they do maintain a website.

i myself am halfway through the process of getting approval to join the NYS audit program. I was not going to offer it stand alone but was going to combine it with either a full house inspection or even a roof inspection. the reimbursement for the state program for the contractor is only $200 and $200 is nothing for someone paying for insurance, maintaining a work vehicle, and driving around this city.

There are other paid contractors and those people do not necessarily have to be approved by the state (there is a federal approval but i am not sure if it is mandatory or simply lets the contractor be on a list of recommended vendors).

i might continue to work on the state program.

is anyone trying to figure out how to navigate a maze of sites/programs/incentives currently available for energy improvements/weatherization for single-fam (low income)? did you have a good experience with a specific advisor/auditor – who is knowledgeable and fair, and would help you do and get more rather than just aggressively sell their own product/service?
