@Mint72 That’s what I was saying as well. Finding a few posts and mixing them in with railing is a great way to go if that is an option. If you’re trying to recreate the original look with multiple posts, that approach may not be feasible.

JohnHancock is correct there is a turnover. You’d need time on your hands to keep looking.

Piccolo has a good reputation. I haven’t used them yet but people have mentioned them here before. AJ/Loppopolo can both be flaky with the communication. They do nice work and the prices aren’t as high as Piscopo. There are some others to be careful of. You’ll have to search the forum.

This summer, Rich from Forerunner Creations reproduced the historic posts and rails on our stoop. We asked him to copy the neighbor’s who has an identical house with the originals on it. The result is stunning, and RIch is honest and a good communicator. Not entirely cheap but highly recommended.

@Dfreed1 Looks great! Thanks for sharing. There are many posts and if you want a few then the approach may be doable. Much harder when you need 20 identical ones that match the street. I guess depends on how much of a purist one is.

DFreed1- I’m envious. That looks beautiful! I saw many posts at the Lowe’s salvage yard but they are the same size as the ones in your photos. We have to match the size of our original because our house is in the historic district and the originals are huge- substantially bigger than the ones they have at the yard.

At the iron yard you just have to keep checking. Things come and go fast but it may take a while. The owner knows his stuff even though the place looks like a junk yard there’s no other place where you could get this stuff in the city
